The Hobart Betta Milk November Dancesport Festival was held in a new venue this year.
The Aurora Sports Stadium has a 1/4million dollar fully sprung floor, with multiple change rooms and facilities on 2 levels. Dancesport Tasmania took advantage of the size of this fabulous venue, offering both general admission seating – tiered seats with padding! – and tables on either end of the dance floor. At over 20 metres x 14 metres, the dancefloor area allowed all couples plenty of room, and with the upcoming Australian Championships in Melbourne, the organiser was keen to provide the best “warm up” for all dancers.

The event organiser, Marilyne, was very pleased with the venue, stating that next year the practice floor (yes they had a practice area as well) will be reduced slightly to extend the main dance floor. “The opportunity to offer all dancers a floor that is the same size as the Australians is something we just cannot pass up” she says.

Aurora Stadium and their catering company – Relish Catering- were very enthusiastic in their support of this event. The usual snack foods were available, as well as healthy food options – even catering for the Coeliac, vegetarian & seafood allergic officials! Yet another bonus at a dancing competition. Freshly prepared wraps, fruit salad, and even sushi was on the menu.

Other “pros” for this event?
-Late starting time (Doors open at 11am) means interstate couples can fly in on the day.
-Salamanca market is only 10 minutes away. Drop in for a look before the day starts (great place to grab breakfast!)
-Accomodation in Hobart is substantially cheaper than the mainland.
-Sponsor Michael Hill (Hobart) provided “$10 off vouchers” for all spectators, 35% off for winners and 25% off for 2nd place.
-Under 12 year old spectators were admitted FREE
-Multiple opportunities to dance. Open to all 3 dance and Open to all 5 dance events, as well as Open Events for each age group and a full range of graded events on offer. Recreational dancers had both individual and couples events, and the teams match needed a semi final!
