ProAm Judging

There are basically two methods of Adjudicating Pro-Am Events.

First is the normal Skating System that is used for DanceSport Events, this method requires all couples to be in the same event/heat so that Adjudicators can compare the couples and determine their 'order of merit'.

A second method is used when Professional/Teachers dance with multiple Students in the same Event, this means the Skating System cannot be used. In these situations each Student is assessed as if they are being examined and are given a score by each Judge. Judges will have the information about each Back Number that tells them the Age Group & Level that the Student is dancing at. Students on the floor during any given heat are not be competing against each other but are being assessed by the Judges on their own merit & Level.

To obtain a result in a particular section, (Adult Bronze Cha Cha for example), the computer searches the database for all Students dancing in that section, then for each Student the highest and lowest scores are dropped and the remaining scores are then averaged. This is a similar process that you see in used in Olympic Diving.

This System allows for a Professional to partner all their Students even if they are in the same section however administration of this type of system is far more complex than that of the Skating System which is why it is necessary that all Students wear their correct Back Numbers and dance in the allocated Heats.
