The 2013 Betta Milk Hobart Dancesport Festival...

by Pamelia Courts

Firstly I would like to congratulate Marilyne Jackson on organising this festival which was well supported. All aspects of the event ran smoothly and the vibe around the venue was electrifying. The competition started at 12 and from that moment there was a full house.

The highlight of the day for me was seeing so many young children from the age of 2 to 7 years taking part in this event. The pre kinder children started at 2yrs and up to 4 yrs. These children had huge smiles on their faces from the time they walked on to the floor until they sat back down. Marilyne had a buddy system where each child was partnered by a registered competitor and not only did the children have huge smiles but so did their partners. The crowd were totally enthralled by this.

Marilyne has a fantastic rapport with children and this was evident with the number that attended and competed. The support from the sponsors (McDonalds, Skate'n'Play and Zone 3 to name a few) meant the children all received prizes and vouchers, in addition to certificates and medallions.

The event catered for all ages and the number of registered and non registered in attendance was inspiring for all Tasmanians and visitors from the interstate. With heats for all open registered events, the numbers in attendance were significant. And again in these events, the support from Dancewear Australia, providing $100 vouchers to the Open 3 Dance Winners in each of the 3 styles, saw the competition heat up! The successful couples - Jake & Lily in Latin, Michael & Aleise in New Vogue, and Joshua & Ebony in Standard should all be proud of their efforts in beating out such strong fields.

I had a fantastic day as a judge and am looking forward to attending next years event and seeing it grow even more, again congratulations to Marilyne and all her supporters.
